Building the Community: Gridlock-Games on the Ground
Gridlock-Games began its journey of community engagement in December 2022, marking its first face-to-face interaction with the public during the Regional Science and Technology Week organized by DOST-NCR. This event served as the studio’s introduction to the local scene—not just as developers, but as passionate advocates for homegrown game development. It was here that Vi the Game was first showcased to a live audience, setting the tone for future interactions built on curiosity, feedback, and shared excitement.
In 2023, the studio further expanded its outreach after connecting with the College Center for Esports (CCE) at the Philippine GameDev Expo (PGDX). This meeting sparked a meaningful partnership, with Gridlock-Games being invited as an industry expert to participate in CCE’s Philippine Collegiate Championship Masterclass—a roadshow designed to educate and inspire students about careers in esports and game development. As part of this initiative, the Gridlock-Games team traveled across various campuses, sharing knowledge and insights with young minds from schools such as Lyceum of the Philippines University, PHINMA Araullo University, Adamson University, and several others.

During these visits, the studio didn’t just talk about game mechanics or development pipelines—they fostered real conversations with aspiring developers and gamers, many of whom had never attended a live talk from a local game studio before. These moments of connection proved powerful. Students who once knew little about Vi the Game left these sessions as fans, and many continue to follow the game’s development and participate in its playtests to this day.

Through every campus, expo, and talk, Gridlock-Games has remained committed to its mission: not just to build a game, but to grow a thriving and inclusive community around it. The studio believes that the future of Philippine game development lies in collaboration, education, and direct engagement—and this grassroots approach has become a cornerstone of their identity as they continue to grow.
